Sönke Meinen regularly teaches workshops and masterclasses on a wide range of guitar-related topics, many of them at festivals and music academies worldwide. In addition, he organizes and leads one-day workshops titled “Creative Acoustic Guitar” in various regions across Germany, which are presented in more detail below on this page.
The workshops vary in length (from 2 hours to a whole week) and are designed for players of different levels and focus not only on learning new skills, but also on exchanging ideas and finding inspiration for everyone’s musical path.
Sönke Meinen has taught workshops and masterclasses in countries such as Australia, China, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, and the Czech Republic, including the Ullapool Guitar Festival, Xiamen Music Season, Mikulov Guitar Festival, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and the Dresden University of Music.

Workshops/Masterclasses
The one-day workshop “Creative Acoustic Guitar” looks at the acoustic guitar from a fresh perspective, exploring the development of original ideas and compositions while expanding one’s technical and musical vocabulary - ranging from unconventional playing techniques, dynamics, and expression to modern sounds beyond traditional boundaries.
These concepts are illustrated using Sönke Meinen’s own pieces and are further explored through the joint playing of easy to intermediate practice pieces and grooves. Through these carefully selected examples, Sönke demonstrates in a practical way how musical expression, technique, and creativity interact.
The workshop usually concludes with an internal open stage - a voluntary and informal performance opportunity for participants, offering the chance to share music and receive constructive feedback in a supportive setting.
Basic knowledge of reading standard notation or tablature is helpful, but not required. Guitarists of all stylistic backgrounds are welcome, whether playing classical or steel-string acoustic guitar. Participants should have at least two to three years of experience with the instrument.
